IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Di Feisheng
Species: Human
Canon:Mysterious Lotus Casebook (Chinese TV drama adaptation of a web novel)
Canon Point: Immediately post
Character Age: this doesn’t really come up canonically but i’m giving him at least two years on Li Lianhua who is 30ish. 32-35.
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: that okay fine this
Powers and Abilities:
Genre standard stuff (not character specific, no characterization insight):
-energy transfers
-rapid healing (sometimes)
-heightened perception
-improved strength
-using acupressure points to freeze or knock out someone
-‘lightness skill’ that entails jumping straight up onto buildings, is basically just shy of flight
-using qi/internal energy as almost a stand in for telekinesis (putting out candles, throwing small things very forcefully, throw swords or throw energy FROM swords) though I will say he seems to favor this more than other characters do.

Character specific:
-Canonically either the first or second greatest fight guy in the martial arts world. Fighting his way up the list of high ranking martial artists is his main outward concern, prior to the show, which begins with an ultimately inconclusive duel with top-ranking Li Xiangyi.
-Achieved the 8th and final stage of his own internal force (Beifeng Baiyang) (with a little help from Li Lianhua's internal force) which isn’t really expanded on a lot beyond just that it’s powerful and rooted in survival at all costs, willpower type of vibes. It presumably powers all the 'standard' abilities, but is also personalized in meaningful ways--in his case, a focus on strong will and adaptability, resulting from a long history of forced self sufficience and extremely adverse circumstances.
-Fights with a double edged limited edition version of a weapon that is categorically supposed to have one edge, no i’m not kidding. But he is shown to be proficient in unarmed martial arts and doesn't hesitate to use improvisation, either, whether that is throwing things or poisoning people with energy.

Di Feisheng leans slightly more toward standard physical martial arts (though high powered) than more fantastical abilities, and I won't be trying for him to regain any of the more fantastical one-off abilities which are more or less single use plot devices (like bone folding for disguise purposes). I don't want him especially high powered in game, not even back to just the genre standard abilities, or at least not easily.

What Did Your Character Wish For? To fight Li Xiangyi at full strength. No poison, no bullshit. It's loadbearing, psychologically, as one of two main goals in his life (and the only one he failed to achieve).
What Potion Did They Receive? Golden potion. Hittin him w one a these
Did They Drink It? At some point.

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
  • Undoubtedly Li Xiangyi/Li Lianhua. He fixated on the former for ten years in a cave after a climactic ocean duel where he was believed to have died. We are given very little information on their interactions prior, beyond the establishment of a truce between their sects, but clearly Li Xiangyi made an impression. Things with the latter are somehow both more and less clear cut; he is very invested in saving “Li Xiangyi” and investigating the circumstances of his “death” to facilitate an untainted rematch, but also does things like write Li Lianhua’s name on his hand prior to a poison-induced bout of amnesia, which is a pretty appalling level of trust to place in one’s kinda-enemy. His goal never seems to change from getting the rematch, but takes on tones of debt repayment (Li Lianhua saves his life at least twice) and just generally wanting the only real challenge in his life to stick around and keep being a challenge.

2. What are they most afraid of?
  • Loss of agency, though I almost hate to say he’s most afraid of it, because he’s gotten pretty horrifyingly able to tolerate it through canon events, but I’d say taking time out from the uberplot to go on a revenge quest against the earliest violator of his free will says he feels pretty strongly about this. He escapes a mind-controlling death cult that trains children to be assassins and the spends all the life we know about trying to get strong enough to go back and break the mind control for good, while in the meantime building up enough power in the martial arts world to stay safe from his former captor, both in terms of personal power and building a sect of his own. Unfortunately, a high ranking member of that sect does wind up also using mind control on him, which causes an amnesia arc, before she escalates to crippling him completely, both in terms of martial arts and physically, as part of a pretty horrifying arranged marriage/power grab double whammy.

3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
  • Despite a (deserved) reputation for ruthlessness and an early upbringing in a murder cult, the therapist he doesn’t have might warn him against following “imaginary rules” that leave him vulnerable to various betrayals, poisonings, stabbings, Li Lianhua’s death. Betrayal is the worst thing, but it keeps happening, and he keeps being shockingly underprepared for it, because he is weirdly hidebound and very single-minded. He can be very cunning and strategic, but there’s always going to be something blunt about it. In the opening fight with Li Xiangyi, he declares himself the winner and is subsequently stabbed to his seeming death, because a real non-ritualized fight doesn't stop just because you won strategically. When he re-unites with Li Xiangyi as Li Lianhua, it takes about five minutes for him to get poisoned and be press-ganged into helping solve the uberplot mystery, because he thinks it's time for talking and getting Li Lianhua healed, not doing underhanded non-fight actions. The subordinate that comes closest to killing him does so after having been imprisoned for treason (and escaping), because he didn't want to kill her directly, even though she's on like her third strike for 'things not to do to your boss.' It's wrong to call him too trusting, because he's very suspicious by nature for good reasons, but he still clings to an internal black and white thinking despite that going poorly for him on numerous occasions.

As to physical weaknesses, it's just all the normal ones now. He's just some guy.

4. What would make them happiest?
  • CAN HE PLEASE JUST GET THAT REMATCH ALREADY look it’s not that Li Lianhua, current wet gremlin, isn’t fascinating and infuriating (and a horrible little freak of a man) as is but he invested a lot in this and it would mean catastrophically more now, after everything, like finding out the original duel was invalidated by poison and betrayal, after he obsessed about it in a cave for a ten year recovery period. He couldn't even stop being obsessed with it when he thought he (barely) won, and now that that's in question and he's arguably even less normal about Li Xiangyi/Li Lianhua, it's even more entrenched. It's the last unattained goal for him, in a life where the experience of almost but not quite getting what he wants is recurring enough to become a theme--multiple foiled escape attempts from the child death cult, hitting a bottleneck in the cultivation of Beifeng Baiyang, so very many attempts to restore Li Lianhua to full power and ultimately keep him alive. As far as he knows, there isn't anything else for him but that fight.

5. What’s their type for a lover?
  • ^^^That, apparently. A challenge, a peer, and someone he will never stop learning from. He is canonically pretty uninterested in anyone else in pretty much any capacity. It's appalling how many times he says some variation on how he's really just trying to keep Li Xiangyi alive, that he's irreplaceable, that he's the only suitable rival...it seems evident that this fixation has grown beyond the sphere of martial arts. It isn't a one to one comparison to romance, but Li Xiangyi is his only remotely similar point of contact with humanity, because he's the only one that is similarly stand-above while also being an interesting ordeal challenge.
