[Well that's one way to get Di Feisheng to admit to being in one place, which will very shortly be the roof, unless he finds out this is some kind of bullshit.]
I can't catch them myself. I hear movement like a shuffling of some kind, but there's no one there when I look back. It's quiet again for half a block, and then I hear movement again.
[He's not gonna say it sounds like ghosts because that's Not Real. But he couldn't risk calling Li Lianhua and having him think it was. He doesn't need to deal with that again so soon.]
[If it was a goblin, he would know. They're not that fast or smart!!!]
What does speed have to do with it, when you're not the one being evaded??
Just keep your eyes open, I'll be in sight soon.
[Sure enough, he comes into view when he rounds the corner of the lane, his usual path back from the cafe that he works at. He tried to walk casually and manages it with only a little stiffness, though his eyes are drawn to the house to find Di Feisheng's vantage point.]
[At first, there's nothing... No movement behind him, not even a rustle of a leaf. And then, just briefly, he might catch a flurry of movement as something darts from one yard to the next, a bright flash of color amid the greens and browns of the hill houses. If his eyes are indeed quick enough, he'll see that it is... A lone pumpkin.]
[Obviously what speed has to do with it is Fang Duobing's lackluster speed at looking for ghosts, which are apparently quite fast and hard to spot, but this is no excuse whatsoever. He won't spot Di Feisheng either, at least until it's too late, and neither will...the lone pumpkin.
Di Feisheng doesn't break cover in exasperated incredulity, but it's a near thing. Cover is also why he's leaving Xiaobao on read, and not the fact that he is occasionally still in his twenties at heart and deeply annoying. Instead he gives the gourd a silent chance to rethink, or just get unwarily (it's a vegetable) in range of being leapt at. Which, as soon as there's another, nearer orange flash, he does, albeit with some concessions made to the landing. He is GOING to do a grab to that thing.]
[Not getting a response back isn't necessarily a bad sign. He's not worried-- It's more obnoxious than anything, more-so that he has to admit in the first place that there's something poke around that's faster than him. A-Fei has always shown up when he's needed, so there's little worry that he wouldn't do so now.]
[Maybe a little more worry when he doesn't see the older man anywhere, but still not unusual.]
[In fact the sudden feeling of descent that happens behind him is both nostalgic and honestly... a little funny in equal parts. Good. Whoever has been trailing him ought to learn a very important lesson. There's some unearned smugness in his expression as he turns around to get a look at this sneaky person--]
[--and a pumpkin zips by in broad view, cover blown, rolling evasively like a gourd out of hell.]
